The merovingian lectionary (VIIth century - Bibliothèque Humaniste MS1a), the oldest book preserved in Alsace, presented in one of the showcases of the Humanist Library, is a liturgical work ; the latin text, from the Bible, is the first lesson read at the Mass in the diocese of Aquila in northern Italy. It was part of the library of Beatus Rhenanus.
