The Sengerama Telecentre was set up in 2001.
Sengerema is the district on the peninsula facing Mwanza port. The town of Sengerema is thus a cross roads from Komanga and Mwanza to Geite immediately to the east, and then northward around the lake to the west to Burundi, Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. It is heavily trafficked in buses and freight bearing trucks.
