A collection of maps compiled by famous Flemish cartographer A. Ortelius (1527-1598), entitled A Picture of the World - the first geographic atlas, printed in many editions during the XVIth-XVIIth century. A. Ortelius was the first to include historic maps in his atlases, and he is therefore known as the father of historic cartography. The Vilnius University Library holds 17 A. Ortelius atlases.
