Description:
Zakia Zaki had been the founder of one of the first community radio stations run entirely by women in Afghanistan, radio Sada–e–Sulh (Peace) in Jabul Seraj. She was killed during the night of 5-6 June 2007. The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) suggests that she may have been killed "for the simple reason that she was a prominent media figure in a milieu that remains hostile to working women."

Zakia Zaki: "I created the first independent women’s radio in Afghanistan. Every beginning is difficult, but I overcome the obstacles… It started broadcasting from Jabul Seraj during the Talebans… We work with men as well as women because if men respect women’s sights, brothers to sisters, husband to wives, fathers to daughters, then women’s rights might become reality."

Would there be any way my mom and I could have a copy of this documentary of Zakia. My Mom was her host Mom here in Omaha, Nebraska of the spring of 2005. I was her host friend/sister while she was here. I will pay for them just let me know. This has been such a comfort for us since her death. Who ever took her life will never find peace in their soul. Thank you!

Thank you so much for the wonderful documentary with Zakia. What a women! I was very blessed to know Zakia. Her death has broken my heart for her family and her country. She was an extremely BRAVE and STRONG WOMAN. It warms my heart to see her at her at her radio station. I loved the part when she was milking her cow. Her and I had talked about her cow. I know I will watch this documentary many more times so I can see Zakia warm and spirited face. Bless Zakia forever. Her death will make a differences in Afghanistan for all women. Her death will not let women go down but will lead women to the front of Afghanistan.
