The project, a follow-up to the Regional Workshop on School Libraries Services in Southeast Asia, organized with the joint efforts of IFLA and UNESCO in Bangkok in September 2003, examines the current state of information literacy teaching in Southeast Asian countries, and puts forward appropriate recommendations and action plans for the greater involvement of school libraries in the development of an information literate citizenry. The project comprises a preliminary workshop to establish a common platform for further investigation of information literacy, followed by national survey of the state of information literacy education and the role of school libraries in eight Southeast Asian countries, i.e. Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand, and Viet Nam. The results of the survey will be shared and used as basis to formulate recommendations and action plans for the further development of information literacy in the individual countries
