The Music Library serves the needs of the UOFS Department of Music. Because of the Odeion String Quartet, resident at the UOFS, the Music Library has an extensive string quartet collection which includes printed music as well as sound recordings.

Over many years the Music Library has been fortunate in securing a collection of rare and interesting material, much of it of particular value to music researchers. The special collection includes, inter alia, valuable and rare early music prints and editions, original music manuscripts, facsimile editions, bequests of the music oeuvres of a number of South African composers, other music and books with Africana value, correspondence and archival material.
